Plai

 


Zingiber cassumnunar or montanumdistilled from the fresh or dried roots/rhizomes from a clumping southeast Asian, plants that may reach 5-7 feet in height. Belongs to the same family as Ginger—also called Thai Ginger. Pleasantly spicy with woody and peppery characteristics. Unlike culinary Ginger, Plai is rarely used for flavoring food. Its primary value lies in its essential oil and medicinal rhizome.

CAUTIONS: Generally considered non-toxic, non-sensitizing, non-irritating.  Dilute well for topical use.  Typically not recommended during pregnancy.

Oak Moss


 Evedrnia prunastri- solvent extracted from the lichen that grows mostly on oak trees.   Dry, bark and pine-like over notes of moss, wood, decaying leaf, damp earth. Widely used in perfumery for its deep forest, earthy-green aroma.


CAUTIONS:  Potential allergens, high risk of sensitization.  Recommended for perfume purposes only. Maximum dermal use level of .1%.

Karanj Seed

 


Pongamia pinnata—distilled from the seeds of the moderate sized nearly evergreen tree. Also Known as Indian Beech oil, or Pongamia oil. The aroma is characterized as “odd” and “strong”, earthy, nutty, and slightly bitter  The natives of North India have used it for generations in traditional farming as natural pesticide. 


CAUTIONS: Considered "active" and "hot" in nature. Using it undiluted can lead to contact dermatitis, redness, or a burning sensation. Recommended limits are generally 85% for facial care and 25% for body care to avoid irritation. Not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Clementine



 Citrus Nobilis/clementina~~cold pressed from the outer peel a cross between a sweet orange tree and a mandarin tree. The clergyman Pierre Clement is credited with crossing a mandarin and an orange. This coupling resulted in a seedless mandarin with a looser skin that was easier to peel.  As complex and multi-layered as a good Red Mandarine, but sweeter.  The sweetness of Sweet Orange Rind or Tangerine, but more subtle. Almost a touch of floral to it. The leaves are steam distilled for Clementine Petitgrain, which has the effects and action of traditional Bitter Orange Petitgrain, but with a softer, sweeter, more noticeably citrus-floral scent.


CAUTIONS: Generally considered non-toxic, non-irritant. Possible sensitizer, especially with old oils. Dilute well for topical use.  PHOTO TOXIC.  Do NOT use on skin exposed to sunlight. Be very cautious about on the skin use, but ah, for the aroma lamp or diffuser it is a joy.


CHARACTER:   "Innocent Revitalizer."  Sympathetic,   Supportive, Calm, Quiet, Peace, Encouraging, Grounding, Unlike sharper citrus oils, it feels nurturing and reassuring.
