Golden Champa

 (Magnolia champaca, formerly Michelia champaca) from India, solvent extracted from the yellow blossoms of the Golden Champa tree. It is described as as a delicate dry-floral, lush, honeyed, exotic-floral with deep fruity, tea-like undertones with notes of Orange Blossom, Ylang Ylang and Carnation. Many describe it as having a "bubble gum" fruitiness combined with spices like star anise.  It is expensive, over $700 for 1/2 oz and ranging up to $5,000 per kilo. It is one of the key ingredients in Joy, one of the world's most costly perfumes.

White Champaca (magnolia alba) and Red Champaca are also available.  The White is a sister oil with a honey note, creamy, buttery quality with hints of banana blossom and lemon. If it is  only distilled from the leaves, then may be quite different. Look up the characteristics before or if you decide on getting Champa. There are around 65 different species.

Generally considered non-toxic, moderate skin-sensitizing, non-irritating in low doses.  Dilute well to under 1% for topical use.

Carnation

 Dianthus caryophyllus-Absolute solvent extracted usually from Egypt made from the flowers—warm, spicy-floral, slightly clove-like. It is not a soft pastel flower — it has fire beneath velvet. Has been used in perfumery for over a century, especially in classic floral and spicy compositions. Creates vintage “bouquet” character. Available, but expensive.  I haven’t used it in any blends yet.  One of my blends, Valentine smells vaguely of it. Some sources state that Carnation Absolute is a powerful aphrodisiac, while others say it is a very motivating oil, as well as being spiritually and emotionally uplifting.

Katafray

 Cedrelopsis grevei-distilled from the bark from Madagascar.  Carries a dry, woody, green, earthy, warm, slightly spicy-woody aroma with subtle camphoraceous lift. Less smoky than cade, less mystical than sandalwood. 

Generally non-toxic & non-sensitizing.  Always dilute before topical use; recommended concentrations range from 1% to 10% depending on the specific application.

Kunzea

 Kunzea Ambigua-- Distilled from flowering branches,  is a tall shrub with abundant white or pink flowers, which grows in the coolest coastal areas of Australia (Southern New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania). 

Sometimes known as White Cloud, Tick Bush or Spring Flower Bush or Tasmanian Spring Flower initially "medicinal" in scent softens on dry-down to leave a subtly spicy note. The name "Tick Bush" comes from the habit of cattle and wild animals resting close to the tree because it seems to repel ticks.  

Tasmanian aromatherapists say that Kunzea is the most healing of the native Australian and New Zealand Essential Oils.  It is not a cheap oil and is a little harder to find.

It is non-irritating to most skin types, Dilute with a carrier oil or diffuse.

Frangipani

 - Plumeria alba or obtusa - also known as Plumeria,  

Flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers have no nectar, and simply dupe their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar.  Used almost exclusively in the perfume industry with a musky, floral, peachy, creamy, lush, soft, fruity and slightly sweet scent.  Exotic smell similar to "lei" garland.

Extracted by Food Grade Solvent or steam distillation. Most commercial “frangipani essential oil” is actually a frangipani absolute or infused oil, not a steam-distilled essential oil.

Usually used at low dilution (1%).
