
mentha piperita -distilled from the flowering herb. Has a highly penetrating grassy-minty, fresh, sweet, camphor odor. There are many variations of mint, including SPEARMINT (spicata) and CORN MINT (arvensis, also known as Japanese). They all contain high amounts of menthol. Used primarily as a flavoring agent in cough remedies, and many foods, especially gum and candy.
CAUTIONS: Generally considered non-toxic. Possible irritant and sensitizer. Dilute well for topical use. Do not use near face of infants or children. Best suited for diffusing and inhalation.
