Vetiver

Formerly vetiveria zizanoides—now Chrysopogon zizanioides distilled from the roots and rootlets. Deep, earthy-woody fragrance with a sweet undertone. Has also been called musty, spicy, dark, full, smoky.   Color and scent can vary according to source..

Used as a fixative and fragrance in soaps, cosmetics, perfumes. Many like it very much, and many consider it simply awful. It is commonly described as a smoky, earthy scent, similar to a campfire that was recently put out.  Vetiver is also called khus (vetiver) or ruh khus (wild vetiver).
