Frankincense

 Boswellia carteri/frereana/rivea/sacra -extracted from the steam distillation of the resin. Each chemotype has slightly different properties. Has a warm, resinous aroma. There are at least 20 different species of B. carteri and B. frareana alone. Fragrance has fresh top note and a warm, rich, sweet balsamic undertone.    Native to the Red Sea region. Used since antiquity as incense in India, China, and in the West by the Catholic church.

 

Generally considered non-toxic, non-sensitizing, non-irritating in low doses.  Dilute well for topical use.
