Illicium verum— steam distilled from the dried ripe fruit, mostly the seeds found within the star. Known for a distinct licorice scent. A single drop or two can dramatically enhance an otherwise dull blend. Occasionally used for food flavoring. Anise and Star Anise are often grouped together and sometimes are confused with each other as both possess a similar aroma, have similar, but not completely identical properties. Their main relationship is—odor. They are two very botanically different plants.
